The Men’s Rugby Team at Grand Valley State University love playing rugby, but needs to raise a whole lot of money just to be a club.  Don’t expect to find the team waiting around for funds from the university. “We annually pay $1,700 just to be a club, and that does not include travel, lodging, tournament costs, referee pay, or socials”, says team President, Michael Jacob.  With no support from the university, the team has always had to hustle to earn the funds they needed; selling t-shirts, working concessions, collecting soda cans, even asking for donations.

Michael first discovered CampusFundraiser as he was looking through the team’s campus mailbox. “I pulled out a post card that had a man screaming and it stated "Stuck with the Fundraising Job?".  Yes, indeed I was...so I called!” recalls Michael. A quick call to a CampusFundraiser Fundraising Manager, gave Michael all the information he needed. “The main reason I decided to give CampusFundraiser a try was because it was a 3 hour long fundraiser that did not require any sales or going door to door.  If you had friends and knew people on campus, this fundraiser was the easiest money you could make!”

The team set out to get the better of their fundraising scrummage with their usual jovial, but determined attitude and ending up scoring $2,045 in profit! “Earning this money was great.  We did it as a team and it felt better to earn it than to have it given to us as a donation, “says Michael. His teammates were pretty excited too. “They loved the fundraiser because they could make our club money in a few hours, rather than a couple of weeks!”

It certainly didn’t hurt having a little support from CampusFundraiser. “CampusFundraiser sent out an awesome Fundraising Manager directly to our school who taught us how to be successful at our fundraiser.  They kept in contact with me before and after the fundraiser, which shows their commitment to their clients.”

Clients?  While we prefer the term, “student groups”, it’s true, we’re committed to the success of every student group we work with. The Men’s Rugby Team plans to pay off all their club dues to USA Rugby, Midwest Rugby Union, Michigan Rugby Union, and Michigan Referee Society and continue scoring more “trys”.
