“We had nothing to lose” says Hazel Ugarte when asked why she chose to work with Campus Fundraiser. “We had tried car washes and bake sales before, but nothing raised sufficient funds.” They even tried a dinner as a fundraiser last year. “We made $150” reports the group leader.
The group was faced with generating at least a thousand dollars to sponsor their annual philanthropy, a scholarship dance. The Executive Board of the Oscar Arias Sanchez Hispanic Honor Society also had another problem; keeping the membership involved, interested, and motivated.
They knew from experience that none of the programs they’d tried before would appeal to all their members. There was way too much history of programs failing to fulfill their promise. That is when they decided to go with CampusFundraiser’s Family and Friends magazine fundraiser.
Hazel tells us “It was definitely a challenge. At first everyone was apprehensive about the idea. Luckily, we have exceptional members who were willing to put in extra effort. At the end all the effort paid off and that is rewarding. We did it together as a group.”
Working with them throughout the process was a “very helpful” project manager who “kept us motivated. All our questions were always answered. And once we saw that we were selling subscriptions we knew we could meet our goal, and sure enough we did.”
Says Hazel now as she helps plan the Winter Semiformal Scholarship Dance: “It is worth the time and effort! The work pays off.”
