Sailing Team University of Minnesota - Twin Cities Fundraising Success with CampusFundraiser

Minnesota is known as “The land of 10,000 lakes”, making it the perfect place to go sailing.

In fact, the only reason the University of Minnesota’s Sailing Team would even think of leaving the state would be for the national competition, held this year in Hawaii.

This was the part of the movie where Alex Symes walked in. “We do all of our own fundraising to pay for our coach, equipment and travel.” he reports “and we needed an extra $500 to make the trip.” Since that was how much the team had earned from their previous fundraiser, it seemed like a realistic goal.

“I never handled fundraising before” Alex says, so he wasn’t sure what to expect from the CampusFundraiser invitation he go in his email. With no risk or commitment on the team’s part, though, it seemed like a good opportunity. And as dad always said: “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

The sailors weren’t all that enthused about selling magazines…until they saw how easy it was. And, of course, the support they got from CampusFundraiser’s staff and coaches didn’t hurt, either. Says Alex, “They were always there to help when we had questions.” Then when they were through, the bottom line looked a LOT better. In fact, the team ended up making double their goal for just three days of work. “it was a great way to earn a lot of money fast.” Alex tells us.

Their efforts took them to Honolulu, where the team placed a respectable 10th place. Next year’s challenge: Detroit!

CampusFundraiser can help your group successfully raise money too. Find out how.
