Joseph Campbell once said that “a hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”.
The Rho-Mu chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, at Binghamton University is fraternity and brotherhood at its best. The brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon have been raising money for the Louis Allen Fallen Soldier Foundation. 34 year old Army 1st Lt. Louis E. Allen, a fraternity alumnus, lost his life in the service of his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom. ( http://www.fallenheroesmemorial.com/oif/profiles/allenlouise.html )
The brothers have made it their duty to raise as much money as possible for the charity, which gives all of the proceeds to his wife and children.
Group leader Cary Magaram said that in the past, fundraisers had been disorganized; only raising about $250. This time around, the group not only needed funds for its charity but also because they were deep in debt and needed a way to make a substantial amount of money with no risk. They chose the mtvU Non-sales Fundraiser and surpassed their goals, raising $1,465.
“I knew that if I took initiative and just put a little bit of effort into the program, that we could utilize our social skills and ingenuity to meet our goals, and we did”, Cary said. "CampusFundraiser never let me forget about the event and kept in constant contact with me whether via e-mail or telephone. They kept me motivated and always made sure I was focused on achieving the bonuses to maximize the amount of money we could actually raise for the Foundation." The fundraiser was met with a little skepticism that was quickly diminished. "Once we went through the motions we realized how easy and fun the fundraiser actually was!" said Cary.
CampusFundraiser is proud to have played a small part in helping the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon to remember and honor Louis Allen, a fallen hero and brother for life.
CampusFundraiser can help your group successfully raise money too. Find out how.
